Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics (fixed-term contract)

University of Oxford - Exeter College

Location: Oxford
Salary: within a range £7,622 - £8,492 per annum (plus other benefits)
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 18th March 2024
Closes: 9th April 2024

Exeter College proposes, if there are suitable candidates, to appoint two Stipendiary Lecturers in Physics. These are fixed-term roles, tenable from 1 October 2024 until 30 September 2025, and the postholders will teach Physics to undergraduate students.

[The College will alternatively consider appointing one person to cover both posts as a single Lecturership, if there is a suitable candidate. Applicants should feel free to indicate this preference as part of their application.]

The Lecturers will each be required to undertake 72 ‘weighted’ hours per annum of tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates of the College (or, by exchange, undergraduates of other Colleges). In addition, they will be required to set and mark College examinations, to participate as required in the undergraduate Admissions process and Access/ Outreach activities, and to participate fully in the running of Physics within the College.

The Stipendiary Lecturers will, between them, give tutorials in

  • First year: CP1 (Mechanics and Relativity) and CP2 (Electromagnetism and Optics)
  • Second year: A3 (Quantum Physics)
  • Third Year: B4 (Nuclear and Particle Physics) and B5 (General Relativity)

The Lecturers will each be appointed to a point on the Senior Tutors’ Committee’s Register of Approved Payments for Stipendiary Lecturers (currently £7,622 - £8,492 per annum). In addition to salary, a range of other generous benefits are available, as set out in the Further Particulars.

We anticipate that interviews will take place in Oxford during the week commencing 29 April 2024.
