The Institute of Healthcare Engineering connects engineering and computing with health and clinical scientists across UCL and the UCL Hospitals to develop fundamental engineering tools and use them to develop translatable, healthcare engineering solutions to clinical problems. The IHE aligns with UCL goals of developing multidisciplinary teams of researchers to improve the lives of people globally and delivers a portfolio of activity spanning research, innovation, education / training, and knowledge exchange.

UCL Mechanical Engineering has been pioneering the development of engineering education, having taught the core discipline for over 165 years. UCL was home to the UK’s first ever Professor of the Mechanical Principles of Engineering, Eaton Hodgkinson, in 1847. It was also where Sir Alexander Blackie William Kennedy introduced organised laboratory practicals in university education training; a world-leading educational innovation at the time.

About the role

The Doctoral Training Centre Manager will have both inward and outward-facing responsibilities. A key aspect is administering the postgraduate research and training aspects of the programme. This includes the development and delivery of an exciting and diverse offer in digital health technologies, co-designed with project partners, as well as ensuring effective procedures are documented and adopted for dealing with all aspects including enquiries, applications, admissions, and progression.

The role will include management for all matters relating to the research, teaching and learning activities of students from enquiry to completion, incorporating organisation of Committees and processes relating to assessment, student and course records. It will also require ongoing and close collaboration with researchers and administrative staff at the Centre’s partner institution, Ulster University (UU).

About you

The postholder must be efficient, organised and take great care in attention to detail. In addition, the role requires interaction with many people within and external to UCL thus a professional attitude, willingness to help and a positive outlook are required to execute the duties outlined.
