Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study and work right in the heart of the city, and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Law to join our dynamic team within the College of Law, Social & Criminal Justice.
THE ROLE:
The successful candidate will need to have the ability to teach, assess and support students across our portfolio which includes LLB Law with Foundation Year, LLB Law and LLM Legal Practice.
We would like to encourage applications from candidates who are able to offer one or more of the following subject areas:
We welcome applications from an academic and/or practice-based background.
FACULTY OF BUSINESS, LAW, AND SOCIAL SCIENCES:
In our Faculty of Business, Law, and Social Sciences (BLSS), we strive to be at the cutting-edge of new ideas, by challenging our staff and students to excel in research and their studies. Our emphasis is on practice-oriented teaching, applied research and consultancy – and we encourage our students to get involved in the real-world application of their learning from the moment they join us.
We want our students to develop and draw upon the very latest knowledge in their fields through engagement with the world beyond the University – which in turn delivers benefit back to wider society. Whether it’s our in-house Law Clinic, our Business Advice Centre, Marketing Agency or Social Impact Hub, our students and the expert staff who support them work to meet the needs of those in our community who may otherwise be unable to unlock expert help.
Our business provision has a unique relationship with the extraordinary city in which it is rooted, renowned for its entrepreneurial and commercial focus throughout its teaching, research, and enterprise activity.
Our law teaching is informed by the belief that a balanced view makes better legal professionals. Students do not just learn about law, they advocate it, and they do not just focus on professional practice, but seek to actively break down barriers to social justice and human rights throughout the world. Through focusing on the vulnerable in our society, staff and students are engaged in making a difference through their legal knowledge and practice.
And throughout our Social Sciences programmes, students and academics work together across disciplines to develop insights into society. From understanding crime and punishment, to the exploration of social structures and change, our staff and students embrace a radical, yet practical agenda aimed at positively impacting on society, both locally and globally.
