Summary of the role

The University of Exeter wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Sareh Rowlands. The researcher will be based at the Department of Computer Science, part of the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy at the University of Exeter. This post is funded by MRC Impact Accelerator Award, and is available immediately, for 9 months.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team to work on detecting fractures and the cause using X-Ray images. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting cutting-edge research in machine learning and computer vision applied to medical data.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research on the development and application of machine learning algorithms and computer vision techniques to medical images (X-Ray).
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement data-driven studies to detect metaphyseal fractures in the X-Ray images.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design and implement data-driven studies to detect the cause of those fractures in the X-Ray images.
  • Publish high-quality research articles in top-tier journals and conferences, and present research findings at national and international conferences.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Essential requirements:

  • PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent qualification/experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field with a strong focus on computer vision, machine learning, or related areas.
  • Excellent mathematical and programming skills Python, C, Matlab, or other relevant programming languages with experience deep learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch and TensorFlow)
  • An excellent track record of publishing/presenting papers in top-tier conferences or journals in the related areas (e.g., computer vision, machine learning)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.

Desirable requirements:

  • Past research in computer vision, medical image processing.
  • Experience in contributing ideas for research projects and research income generation.
