About the Role

The Department of Linguistics, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, is looking to appoint a Lecturer in linguistics with a specialization in formal semantics.

Duties under Teaching and Scholarship

Duties will include convening and teaching undergraduate and MA modules, overseeing UG and MA dissertation supervision, and undertaking administrative roles as required within the Department. Modules may include introduction to semantics, syntax and syntactic theory, semantics for non-specialists, advanced semantics, and research proseminar.

About You

You will hold a PhD in linguistics, ideally with a specialization in formal semantics, or have an equivalent professional qualification, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, good organisational and communicative skills are also essential.

The post is full-time and fixed-term for 4 months and available as maternity cover, with an expected start date of 01 September 2024 until 31 December 2024. The salary will be Grade 5, £49,785 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance.

It is expected that the successful candidate will hold it for the full period. However, should the post-holder on maternity exercise their right to return earlier, then this appointment will be terminated, subject to a notice period of one month.
