The Scotland’s National Centre for Languages and the Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools, requires a 1.0 FTE Professional Development Assistant to support its growing online Mandarin teaching programme. This is an exciting opportunity to work at a national level and drive forward the strategic languages’ agenda in Scotland.

The Professional Development Assistant will be a GTCS registered teacher of Mandarin. They will be responsible for teaching a range of certificated and non-certificated Mandarin classes.  It is likely that this will be done online from home, with the possibility of some face-to-face classes. They will also support a range of projects with the University of Strathclyde, our partners in the Confucius classroom hubs and communities.

The post holder would, therefore, need experience of teaching Mandarin to classes at all stages of the Broad General Education and Senior Phase. A sound knowledge of the standards and expectations of curriculum for excellence is essential as is ability to plan, deliver and assess the curriculum at all levels. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of engagement with professional learning. Ideally, they will be able to demonstrate experience of working in partnership, for example with parents, community, business and/or FE/HE. The successful candidate will have the ability to work not only on their own initiative but also as part of a team and excellent organisational, ICT and communication skills are essential.

The post holder will report to a Professional Development Officer and will support them with implementation of educational projects nationally and abroad. Fluent Mandarin and strong communication skills are, therefore, essential attributes of the successful candidate. The post is until 31st December 2024 in the first instance, on a seconded or fixed term basis.
