We are looking for a SharePoint developer to help us provide a dedicated SharePoint development capability within our software development team.

The opportunity

This is an opportunity to join our talented team of software developers, working at the heart of one of the world’s leading universities. Your remit will be to help deliver a wide portfolio of software for use across the University, in collaboration with a variety of internal business areas.

The team is multi-disciplinary: in addition to team members who work in SharePoint development, the team has developers who use technologies like Python, Django, database, JavaScript, REST APIs, and so on. We aim to share and align software development best practices, innovation, and standardisation across all our platforms whereever we can.

This position is offered on a full-time basis with an open-ended contract. We can provide flexible working and/or reduced hours to support your childcare or other responsibilities.

The team is based in a large, modern office in central Edinburgh. We currently support hybrid working and you will have the option to work remotely for up to 4 days a week if you wish. We retain the right to make changes to our hybrid working policy in future. Successful candidates should live or plan to move within commuting distance of Edinburgh.

About the role

In this role, you will be responsible for providing SharePoint platform development capabilities to the team. You will have complete focus on this platform, while benefiting from best practice software development tools, processes, principles, project methodology, and relationships which have been built up by the software development team over many years.

This is a mid-level developer role. You will be working closely with another SharePoint developer, and with one Senior SharePoint developer. We prioritise opportunities for learning and career growth. You will be expected to contribute to solution design, and you will be given opportunities to lead on design and development work when appropriate.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Skills and recent experience in design and development for SharePoint Online.
  • Experience of working with SharePoint development tech stack tools: SPFx, Power Automate.
  • Experience in C# and JavaScript development languages.
  • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Experience of requirements analysis, and system design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels in both verbal and written communications.
  • Problem solving attitude, and keen to learn new things.
  • Interest in working in a Higher Education environment, covering a variety of business areas.
