We are looking for a post-doctoral research associate to join an established research group investigating the role of senescence and mitochondrial morphology in arterial calcification.

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for an exciting post-doctoral equivalent position funded by the BBSRC. The post is within Dr Vicky MacRae’s research group at The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh.

The post holder will use a multidisciplinary approach to the role of senescence and mitochondrial morphology in arterial calcification. The successful candidate will be expected to have a PhD in a related field and have experience in super resolution microscopy, molecular biology and cell culture. 

The individual appointed to this position will support the MacRae group’s research efforts through planning and conducting experiments, analysing data, and production of high-quality scientific publications. They will also support the Roslin Institute’s wider scientific community through collaboration, taking part in public engagement activities, and/or serving on committees.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD level training in relevant field (e.g biomedicine) (Desirable).
  • Experience working with super resolution microscopy, including DNA PAINT. (Desirable).
  • Excellent knowledge of cell culture techniques.
  • Extensive experience in molecular biology techniques, including quantitative pcr, transformation, miniprep, DNA/protein extraction and gel electrophoresis.
  • Experience of using scientific software for analysis (e.g. MATLAB, ImageJ, Fiji, Origin, Python).
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
