The department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for economics, geography, business, mathematics, science and humanities education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes. The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, incorporating Secondary PGCE, School Direct,, innovative Masters programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research (CTTR) is founded on the assumption that the quality of education a young person experiences is critical to their future and to the overall well-being of the society in which they live. The CTTR’s work supports teachers to meet the needs of learners, local communities and across global challenges for education systems.

The CTTR is seeking to appoint two temporary Research Fellows (0.4 FTE and one 0.2 FTE) who work in a major field of educational research such as: education policy, sociology of education, educational psychology, curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, or teacher education. Expertise with qualitative methods will be essential. There will be opportunity to contribute to the analysis of survey data using descriptive statistics. It is expected that the successful candidate will have expertise in relevant areas such as: working with a variety of qualitative methodologies, including focus groups and in-person and online interviewing (especially involving interviewing children, young people, teachers and headteachers), design of interview schedules, validation of survey questions, thematic analysis (survey and interview data), communicating and maintaining positive relationships with schools.

This is a fixed term appointment with initial funding until 31/12/2024.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have PhD or equivalent in relevant subject areas. You will have proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies in a key field of educational research and have experience of research with children or young people. In addition, the successful candidate will have practical experience of applying specialist skills and techniques required for role, and have evidence of contributing to research bids and publication record.
