We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Medicinal Chemist within our Drug Discovery Unit. The post holder will work within a medicinal chemistry team in projects that expand across all aspects of early drug discovery, from assessing screening hits to hit validation and hit to lead with the aim of delivering lead optimisation candidates. We are currently considering applications from candidates with a range of experiences for Grade 6 and 7 roles. This is an open-ended appointment subject to funding from March 2024.

We are looking for a highly motivated medicinal chemist with a range of experience in the BioPharma industry or similar, for a medicinal chemist role within the Drug Discovery Unit (DDU). The post holder is expected to work in a team in projects that expand across all aspects of early drug discovery from assessing screening hits to hit validation and hit to lead with the aim of delivering lead optimisation candidates.

Your priorities will include:

  • Working in chemistry laboratory synthesising compounds towards delivering the project goals of identifying candidates for lead optimisation.
  • Contribute to the design and selection of compounds
  • Scouting, proposing and implementing synthetic routes
  • Analyse assay and pharmacokinetic data and synthesise target compounds.
  • Contribute to writing reports, presentations, patent applications and publications.

Who we’re looking for:

  • The post holder must be professionally qualified in a chemistry-related subject, with a range of relevant drug discovery experience in the BioPharma industry or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate initiative, with good time management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medicinal chemistry desirable.
  • Grade 6: BSc in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or a related discipline
  • Grade 7: PhD in chemistry or BSc in chemistry plus subsequent experience in drug discovery in industry or academia
