The School of Performing and Digital Arts at Royal Holloway University of London is recruiting a Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in Race and Culture in Film and Media, based in the Department of Media Arts at its Egham campus. The department provides a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to a student body that is over 40% Black and Global Majority.
The successful candidate will teach across our BA programmes which include Film Studies, Film Television and Digital Production, Digital Media Culture and Technology and Video Games Art and Design. They will develop undergraduate modules that will be attractive to students studying in some or all of these programmes. They will play a key role in the development of the department, and work closely with our diverse and changing student cohort. The post also offers the candidate the opportunity to contribute to taught postgraduate programmes in Media Arts where appropriate, and to supervise postgraduate research students.
The successful candidate will have experience of teaching in race and culture in film and media at undergraduate level. They should have been awarded a PhD in a relevant field and have a profile of high-quality research commensurate with their career stage. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate disciplinary expertise that is underpinned by research in one or more of the following areas: critical race studies; postcolonial studies; decolonising methodologies; theoretical and critical perspectives on film, television or digital cultures; media histories & historiography.
The appointment will be made at Lecturer grade 8, with start point varying according to experience and qualifications.
The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate leadership and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students, colleagues & research communities from a wide range of backgrounds.
