CDT’s exciting mission is to do innovative research that has the potential to create new business opportunities, whilst also benefiting the wider society. We are committed to sustainable and ethical business practices and are uniquely positioned to support the changes required to build a better world.
CDT currently requires a Scientist to contribute to our research and development activities within an ongoing project on high-performance batteries. The role involves characterising novel functional battery materials and testing them in coin cell devices. In addition, you will be expected to contribute to generating ideas for future CDT technologies in general.
Working closely with other team members, you will be involved in the development and characterisation of functional materials for energy storage applications. You will plan and perform the characterisation of novel battery materials and test them in devices, to establish structure-property correlations and to investigate the impact of the material properties on device performance. You will play a key role in discussing results and providing next-step recommendations for the project. You will also contribute to deepening our understanding of the applications space for high-performance batteries, and to identifying key players in the field. In addition, you will participate in projects with third parties, as required, and contribute to the generation of Intellectual Property (IP) for CDT.
You will hold a PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or Physics, or a related degree and equivalent work experience gained in an industrial or academic environment. Strong knowledge and practical experience with battery technologies or electrochemical techniques is essential. You should have a calm and methodical approach to work, strong attention to detail, and strong organisation skills. Creativity, innovative thinking, and a can-do attitude are essential.
With outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to all audiences, you will be self-motivated and proactive, with creative and inventive problem-solving abilities. You must understand and thrive on the demands of driven industrial research and be able to demonstrate that you work with the same drive and passion as all our teams.
We offer a friendly and fun working environment and welcome applicants from all backgrounds, as we firmly believe flexibility and diversity enhances our research excellence. We offer a fantastic holiday allowance (27 days for full time employees), bank holidays, an additional day off to celebrate your birthday and a day off for you to undertake voluntary work aligned with our values. In addition, we have flexi-time and home-working arrangements. Where appropriate, we will cover the costs of visa sponsorship and provide relocation support if you require this in order to work with us.
We also offer all the usual benefits you would expect, including private health and dental insurance, life assurance, income protection insurance, an Employee Assistance Programme and a pension scheme. It goes without saying that our salaries are also pretty good, supported by a generous sign-on bonus to welcome you and help ease the move to CDT.
