We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative and independent Knowledge Exchange and Communications Officer to join EPIC, Scottish Government’s Centre of Expertise on Animal Disease Outbreaks. EPIC (www.epicscotland.org) is a virtual consortium involving around 40 scientists at six different Scottish institutions. EPIC provides advice and analyses to Scottish Government to inform animal disease control.

The Opportunity:

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. The post holder should be based in Scotland in order to support preparation for and attendance at in-person events. 

This role will contribute to EPIC’s knowledge exchange and communications strategy, aimed at a range of audiences including policy makers, livestock industry, scientific/academic, and general public and will include: 

  • Work with University of Edinburgh staff as well as EPIC members based at other institutions (in particular, topic leads for this area of work, EPIC director and project manager, and local administrative support for EPIC) to deliver KE for EPIC
  • Develop written material for KE via the website or via press or other publications, including translation of science appropriate for different target audiences
  • Organise relevant events 
  • Identify new opportunities, new routes and innovative ideas for knowledge exchange, and when agreed with the EPIC KE committee, develop them 
  • Work with the University of Edinburgh communications office to provide additional communications support.           
  • The post-holder will perform additional duties as directed from time to time by the Line Manager.
  • The post-holder must use their initiative in the conduct of their work, and apply sound judgement at all times to ensure that they conduct themselves within the framework of UoE regulations and procedures.

Please note the post holder will be required to travel throughout Scotland, this will on occasion include overnight stays

  • Proven excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, presentation and time management skills and experience of working in collaborative projects 
  • Experience of coordinating and arranging seminars, workshops and conferences and other public engagement events
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team 
  • Excellent time management 
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capability
