The post provides the very best in both clinical and academic opportunities for infection trainees in the West Midlands.

The clinical component of the post would be spent at the Department of Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine and Department of Microbiology at University Hospitals Birmingham. This will include in-patient work at the West Midlands regional Infectious Diseases unit, a 47-bed ward at Heartlands hospital with negative pressure isolation facilities. Additional clinical placements will be spent working in in-patient and infection service consult-base work across other hospitals including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital offering tertiary services in cardiac, neurosurgery, solid organ transplant and haematology. Clinical services work closely with UK Health Security Agency (formally PHE) regional reference laboratories for virology and national reference laboratory for mycobacterial pathogens.

Successful applicants will undertake a programme of research in line, and supported by, the current research interests in infection research at IMI with experienced mentors. This will include full access to all investigators to see where research interests and working relationships are well aligned.
