About the role

As a Workshop Technician, you will be an integral part of our team, responsible for providing technical support in our workshop environment. The key role of the post-holder will be to engage in the design and manufacture of novel scientific experimental devices. These devices will contribute to the development of new research and teaching initiatives in the departments.

Other duties will include:

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on workshop tools and machinery to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Inventory Management: Track and manage inventory of workshop supplies, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability for ongoing projects.
  • Assistance with Projects: Collaborate with project teams to provide technical support during various stages of project execution, including setup, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, promoting a secure working environment for yourself and others.

About you

  • You need to have completed a recognised apprenticeship / HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and have an NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant accredited workplace.
  • You will have experience of traditional engineering machines, principals and techniques including in hand tools.
  • You will be able to use CNC machines and understand their applications.
  • You must be able to demonstrate an appreciation of health & safety in a workshop environment.
