JOB DESCRIPTION, EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Digital Communications Support Co-ordinator takes the lead on website and social media communications and supports the work of UKLA by ensuring that communications are professional, prompt and effective.  The tasks would include, but not be limited to, those indicated below: 

  • creating effective marketing and communications for the wide range of UKLA events
  • creating web pages in the UKLA website and other booking platforms
  • managing, maintaining, and developing content for UKLA’s website, including regular monitoring to ensure that content is up-to-date
  • working proactively with trustees, partners and committees to support effective communication
  • producing materials for events e.g. programmes, brochures, PowerPoint slides to advertise UKLA to delegates
  • managing and developing UKLA’s social media presence e.g. scheduling posts on Twitter and Facebook using Hootsuite. This is in close liaison with the on-going schedule from the convenor of the Publicity and Communications sub-committee
  • developing innovative social media and seasonal marketing initiatives
  • attending occasional in person or online events, as agreed, including the UKLA International Conference
  • troubleshooting and resolving technical issues – liaising with web developers and other parties where necessary
  • as the successful applicant will be working within a small team, flexibility is required in order to support the work of other office colleagues at busy periods or to cover leave. 

EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

This post would suit applicants with a sound understanding of social media and online systems and enthusiasm for clear and innovative online material. We are particularly looking for a candidate who is positive-minded, able to work independently, a quick learner and reflective. Applications for the post should include information on experience and skills in the following areas: 

Essential

  1. ability to work as part of a team and in a timely manner
  2. ability to be proactive, to work independently and to manage areas of responsibility effectively
  3. good organisational, liaison and oral and written communication skills
  4. skills in maintaining, updating and managing websites
  5. social media management experience e.g. with Facebook/Twitter/other platforms
  6. an understanding of diversity and equality issues in digital communications 

Desirable

  1. experience of developing professional relationships with partners and other relevant external bodies
  2. graphical design skills, including experience of using relevant software, eg. Canva 

Post Details, Hours and Salary

Contract: The contract is a part-time, permanent contract and is subject to a 6 month probation period.

Line Manager: The UKLA Digital Communications Support Co-ordinator reports to the Director of UKLA

Hours: 17.5 hours per week (0.5FTE) on a schedule agreed upon with the Director – we are happy to support a flexible pattern for the right candidate.

Workplace: Although the UKLA office is situated in Leicester, we are open to the possibility of remote working. Office working hours are usually Monday to Friday 9–5.

Salary: Initially on Point 1 or 2 of the UKLA Pay Scale £20,948-£21,254 pro rata, depending on experience.
