We wish to appoint a lecturer (Grade 7 of our salary scale) within the Department of Philosophy. This will be a 0.6 FTE fixed-term contract for 48 months, commencing on January 1st, 2025.
The main goal of the post is to provide a teaching replacement for Dr. Aaron Cotnoir and Prof. Franz Berto, who have their teaching duties reduced until December 31st, 2028, to carry out research in projects funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Leverhulme Trust. The lecturer is expected to provide teaching in the areas of logic and metaphysics at all levels of our undergraduate curriculum as well as in the MLitt. We currently offer a range of modules in logic, ranging from basic to intermediate and advanced; we offer metaphysics modules at Honours (advanced undergraduate) level and in the MLitt; metaphysics is also taught within larger modules at sub-Honours (beginning undergraduate) level. The post holder will give lectures, seminars, tutorials, and may be asked to coordinate modules and carry out other standard teaching and administrative tasks as required. As the post is tied to externally funded grants, it will not be renewed.
The lecturer is also to participate in departmental research: they will be affiliated to our Arché Research Centre, where they will attend and present their research in advanced seminars.
Applicants must hold a PhD in philosophy or a cognate discipline by the start date of the post. Please see the Further Particulars for more details concerning essential and desirable attributes.
