This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious post-doctoral researcher to work on a major sustainability challenge within the nuclear energy sector. The University of Manchester in partnership with Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS), is seeking a Research Associate to undertake this 12-month project to investigate the long-term behaviour of concrete elements at both the material and structural level. The position will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to work with leading specialists in structural concrete and its application in the nuclear energy sector.

Candidates will require a PhD (or equivalent) in the area of concrete engineering/material science and have experience of advanced characterisation of cementitious materials, concrete degradation mechanisms and associated laboratory testing in addition to relevant non-destructive testing techniques.

This post is jointly funded through a UKRI scheme intended to promote sustained and mutually beneficial relationships between universities and industry, allowing translational development of university research. Based primarily at the University of Manchester, the successful candidate will work directly with colleagues from both the University and NRS. Occasional travel to NRS sites will be required.
