About us
The Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences (SHS) represents areas of knowledge where humanities and social science meet. The interests and methods of the eight component departments (Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Geography, History, History of Art, Institute of the Americas, Political Science), together with the interdisciplinary Institute of Advanced Studies, offer excellent opportunities for innovative and collaborative research. Each of the departments carries out world leading research in its own field. There are more than 6000 students and over 1000 members of staff in the faculty, of whom three quarters are academic, teaching and research staff, and one quarter professional services.
The Faculty Education and Student Experience Team provides professional education leadership and student, learning and teaching administration across the faculty and the ca. 6000 students. This includes strategy contributions, academic policy and regulations, governance and committee work, quality assurance and enhancement, student experience matters, teaching and learning administration, assessment and examination board matters, student casework, involvement in student number planning and fee setting, as well as admissions approval matters.

About the role
The Head of Education and Student Experience is part of the Faculty Education and Student Experience team who work together in a close network of teams that support all of our students.
The postholder looks after a wide range of aspects of Education planning and delivery across the Faculty. The role leads and works closely with a team of specialised education professionals and deputise for the Director of Education and Student Experience and provide senior-level strategic and administrative support on academic management issues.
In particular, the Head of Education and Student Experience is responsible for quality assurance (with an emphasis on module and programme approval processes) and teaching and learning administration as well as playing a coordinating role between Departments, Faculty and central services.
About you
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with significant experience in leadership within HE, including management of staff and resources and building and motivating teams through change.
The role holder is expected to be an active participant in Faculty and cross-UCL committees: liaison and networking with experience of developing and successfully implementing practical solutions and processes, using excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills to influence others and to develop effective working relationships. They should possess a clear understanding of equality and diversity issues and how to cascade values and information on how issues can be addressed in an essential manner.
