The University of Sheffield and Bergmann Direct Ltd have recently secured a grant to develop an innovative food waste pacification process using advanced electromechanical control. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Mechatronics (mechanical, electrical, control) Design Engineer for product development as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme.
This exciting project combines electrical, mechanical and control engineering with commercial product development. You will bring together academic knowledge, supported by the university, with fast-moving commercial development, supported by Bergmann Direct Ltd, an innovative recycling technologies company based near Lincoln.
Key elements of the role include studying the food waste process, developing control strategies to optimise processing to suit a range of applications, constructing and testing prototypes, assisting in the development of a business plan for commercial implementation, and working with commercial partners to understand requirements. You will apply a range of technical skills to a real-world problem with the aim of developing a technical solution into a commercial reality.
In addition, the post provides a £4,000 budget for personal and professional development for the successful candidate. The role will be an ideal opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research and development within an industrial context.
The Mechatronics Design Engineer will be based at Bergmann Direct Ltd’s premises in North Hykeham, near Lincoln, but will be an employee of The University of Sheffield. The expected hours of work will be 9am to 5pm (with one hour for lunch) Monday to Friday.
