The University of Essex is one of the top research-intensive universities in the UK. The School of CSEE is top-rated and has a long-standing tradition of research into Communications and Networks (COMNET). It was one of the first UK universities to actively research into these areas, back in the Department of Electronic System Engineering (ESE). In the recent Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF’2021), CSEE ranks the 6th in the UK for our research power and the 9th for our research impact (by Grade Point Average).
Duties of the Role
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Research Officer to work on a full-time basis on our 3-year EU SNS project ‘NATWORK: Net-Zero self-adaptive activation of distributed self-resilient augmented services’. The project will combine principles of cybersecurity with cloud orchestration frameworks and machine learning models, to develop novel solutions for decentralised orchestration of secure-by-design cloud-native 6G slices. The research officer will join a team with the responsibility of developing middleware solutions that incorporate optimisation algorithms (including machine learning) for composition and scheduling of 6g slices, adhering to cybersecurity intents. The research will be expected to implement said solutions as a Proof-of-Concept, evaluate it in realistic scenarios and demonstrate it in one of the usecases of the project, Use-Case 1 “Sustainability and reliability of 6G Slices and services”.
