Two Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions in engineering biology to improve the sustainability of industrial antibiotic fermentations using Streptomyces in the group of Professor Paul A Hoskisson at the University of Strathclyde.

Applications are invited for two Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions in the group of Professor Paul A Hoskisson, Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, in collaboration with the University of Surrey (Prof Claudio Avignone-Rossa) and GSK to undertake an engineering biology study into the improvement of sustainability in industrial Streptomyces fermentations. The successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary team at the University of Strathclyde employing a combination of molecular microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, genetics, and biochemistry investigating industrial production of natural products from Streptomyces bacteria.

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct and analyse experiments, contribute to report and paper writing and to participate in the wider scientific environment within the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. The successful candidates will also be responsible for reporting results to our collaborator and industrial partner, GSK and periods of time may be spent at the University of Surrey and the GSK site in Worthing, UK.
The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, within the University of Strathclyde is a world-class research institute and is looking to appoint highly motivated and exceptional candidates who have (or are about to obtain) a PhD in Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline, or have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree. Experience of Streptomyces molecular genetics and high-throughput sequencing, RNASeq and analysis and synthetic biology/tools development would be desirable.
