Applications are invited for an exciting 1-year Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position in the area of marketing (with a specific focus on consumer behaviour and pricing new products), starting in June 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. Applicants should hold a PhD in an area related to marketing and/or consumer research, or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate will have a firm knowledge of business and marketing principles (ideally within the food industry context), with demonstrable expertise in consumer research using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

Candidates will have access to a travel budget and will be expected to travel to different sites in the south of England where the project is taking place (e.g., Reading, Plymouth, Tower Hamlets, Brighton). 

What will you be doing, day to day?

  • Liaising with colleagues on the FoodSEqual project to advance the project aims
  • Reviewing the scientific literature relevant to food pricing and related areas
  • Conducting primary and secondary research to better understand the pricing and affordability context for disadvantaged consumers
  • Leading and contributing to the development of conference presentations (including presenting at conferences) and journal articles which arise from the project’s findings

What skills and experience will you bring to the role?

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Marketing or a related discipline, involving consumer research
  • Knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies and related computer software
  • Knowledge of contemporary pricing practices
  • A record of publications in quality peer reviewed journals, commensurate with stage of career

Given the nature of the role, there is some scope for remote working and also the possibility that the role could involve some time spent at the University of Reading’s Whiteknights Campus working in collaboration with other project members. Working arrangements will be explored at interview.
