ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is based in the Department of Research, Engagement and Innovation Services (REIS) which is one of the University’s key professional service units, adding value and supporting the growth and quality of Swansea University’s cultural, social and economic impact through the delivery of excellent and fit for purpose research, engagement and innovation services.

Working under the supervision of the Contracts Manage the role-holder will provide a professional and efficient legal advice service to Faculty researchers, support staff and professional service units, by offering expertise in the negotiation, review and drafting of contracts with external organisations and collaborators that provide support or services for Faculty research and consultancy activity which may include; funding agreements, collaboration agreements, framework agreements, clinical trial agreements, studentship agreements, data sharing/processing agreement (UK and international), material transfer agreements and non-disclosure agreements of varying complexity.

We are looking for someone who can take the lead in negotiating and securing optimum terms for contracts in their area (including general provisions, apportionment of risk and reward, reputational management, intellectual property, confidentiality, publication, liabilities and indemnities), whilst maintaining an awareness of the issues surrounding the sector, university policy and applicable legislation. 

The post holder will be required to demonstrate a high degree of self-management and strong organisational skills with aptitude for prioritising and working to deadlines; excellent verbal and written communication skills; pragmatism and diplomacy; as well as IT proficiency particularly in the use of Microsoft packages.
