Research Technician

In this varied role the appointed Research Technician will support work on a future farming innovate project looking to establish genetic improvement practices in hop plants. The project is particularly focused on assisting the production of high-quality hop varieties that are resistant to plant pathogens and drought stress. Full training will be provided for this post however a wiliness to learn is essential.

As Research Technician you can expect to be involved in:

• Collecting leaf material for DNA extraction across hop population.
• Collecting hop material for propagation for drought experiment. 
• Assisting set up large scale drought experiment. 
• Taking measurements of experimental plants & recording data to help identify drought resilient hop varieties.
• Analysing chemicals present in hop cones to assess flavour compounds in each variety (training will be provided).

What will you bring to the role?

• Educated to A level in a science/ horticulture or equivalent qualification or experience
• Proven experience of working in a laboratory setting
• Excellent numeracy skills, accuracy and attention to detail
• Experience of using complex technical equipment and providing advice on its use to students and colleagues
