Student Wellbeing Lead

Location: South Kensington Campus - Hybrid

Job Summary

The Student Wellbeing Lead will oversee and coordinate the student wellbeing advice service for the Faculty of Engineering providing high quality advice, guidance and support to students. This will include overseeing the Student Wellbeing Advisors based in our Departments.

You will develop and manage appropriate resources, activities and training to support students’ wellbeing. You will work closely with the Faculty Senior Tutor, staff in our departments, as well as with central university support services to signpost students to counselling, mental health advice and other services internal and external to the College, and to develop proactive support for students across the Faculty.

In addition, you will manage your own caseload of students within a Faculty department and be an escalation point for some of the more complex and sensitive cases across the Faculty.

Duties and responsibilities

The role will focus on the following areas:

• Wellbeing advice - To manage and coordinate the delivery of Student Wellbeing support to students across the Faculty of Engineering, complementing and enhancing the support provided by the Faculty Senior Tutor, departmental Senior Tutor(s), other department-based staff and central student support services

• Provision of health and wellbeing resources, activities and training
• Collaboration with elected student representatives
• Ensuring efficient and effective referral to and liaison with University wide support services

Essential requirements

• Educated to degree level standard or equivalent
• Higher degree (master’s or equivalent) in relevant area or equivalent experience
• Significant experience of managing wellbeing support to students in a professional context
• Working knowledge of GDPR legislation
• An up to date understanding of the diversity of the student population, and the additional challenges that groups within this may face, including neurodivergent students
• Experience of managing an advice service or team within a further or higher education setting, with a focus on wellbeing support
• Experience of providing clinical-type supervisory support to staff involved in supporting students
• An excellent understanding of safeguarding principles
• Be able to show empathy and demonstrate an understanding approach towards the needs of students
• Be confident, motivated and committed to the Faculty and its staff and students in a multi-cultural, diverse environment
• Be tactful and diplomatic in approach and able to deal with confidential matters with discretion
• Be flexible in approach to duties and able to work as part of a team
• An understanding of the role of universities and their contributions to society

Further Information

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
