Role Purpose

The purpose of the role of ADoE (PGT) is to lead, oversee and implement programme arrangements to deliver an outstanding postgraduate education across all Institute PGT courses. The appointee will be expected to take a leading role in the development, monitoring, and enhancement of all postgraduate programmes and develop and oversee the running of the postgraduate portfolio, including providing support and assistance for colleagues in developing and approving new programmes, courses and pathways.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Working under the supervision of the Director of Education, The ADoE (PGT) will  take a leading role in postgraduate programme and course development, assurance and enhancement processes, ensuring that teaching and learning across the Institute is continually improved, considering experience, outcomes, and national and international policy and sector best practices.
  • Liaise primarily with all Associate DoE’s Head of Department and Programmes, take responsibility for any Level 7 activity.
  • Engage with other portfolio leads as required.
  • Cooperation with Education SMT, Institutional SLT on academic planning, programme design and development and resourcing will be required.
  • Provide line management for all Heads of PGT programmes.
  • Engage with senior members of professional services teams (RAS) to support effective recruitment, high quality programmes and exceptional student experience.
  • Support a strong, student-focused culture across all postgraduate programmes in the university.
  • Participate in related meetings and committees as required.
  • Provide advice and guidance where required on postgraduate course documentation, delivery, assessment, quality and review, and sharing good practice across the Institute.
  • Uphold and promote equality, diversity and inclusion across all aspects of the role.
  • Undertake further duties as specified by the DoE, responding flexibly to changing circumstances and adapting the role to meet the needs of the Institute.
  • The ADoE (PGT) will additionally be required to take online management responsibility for all Head of Programme leading level 7 courses and take an Institution wide lead in an agreed area of the Institutes Educational provision (for example Learning and Teaching, Student Experience, professional development etc).
  • Encourage applications from those with a keen interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment at postgraduate level; those with knowledge and experience of quality assurance processes at Level 7; and those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students, including mature and distance learning students.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • PhD qualified or working towards with a minimum of a Masters (MSc/MA or equivalent). Desirable is to be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or equivalent (Senior Fellow is desirable).
  • Demonstrable experience of learning, delivery of high-quality teaching, pedagogy and scholarship in an area relevant to at least one of the postgraduate programmes offered by the department.
  • Awareness of resourcing needs as they relate to postgraduate programmes and an ability to shape and influence funding strategy as part of future proofing PGT provision.
  • The ability to engage confidently and competently with academic and professional communities and the willingness to participate in engagement activities which develop the reputation of postgraduate programmes within and outside the Institute.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and evidence of supporting the integration of technologies into learning, teaching and scholarship.
  • Excellent time-management and organisational skills.

  • Indirect Reports: Academic staff teaching on PGT programmes.
  • Travel: Some travel may be required from time to time
  • Budget Responsibility: yes – departmental budget
