Science Technician - Term Time Only

Part Time 37 hours per week Term Time Only (40 weeks/year)

We are currently seeking a Technician to help provide technical support to teaching and demonstration activities, as well as events and productions across Bath Spa University

About the Role

Within your role as Technician, you will provide comprehensive technical support to in-house, visiting and off-campus teaching and production work as required, (including support for curricular and extra-curricular productions where appropriate), ensuring that best and safe professional practice is followed at all times. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining equipment, managing loans and returns, and adhering strictly to Health & Safety procedures. In addition, you will maintain stock records and inventories and be responsible for resources reporting lost, damaged or malfunctioning equipment to your line manager. You will also liaise with the authorised signatory to raise orders on the relevant budget code, taking delivery of ordered goods and checking all related paperwork before payment is authorised.

About You

You will have a Science Graduate Degree and recent laboratory experience. Your role will involve implementing up-to-date knowledge of professional equipment and techniques in diverse scientific areas such as Biology, Biomedical Science, Environmental Science, and Geography. You will have a good understanding of Health & Safety (H&S) protocols within laboratory settings; qualifications in H&S or First Aid are beneficial. You will have strong interpersonal skills, proactive initiative, and the ability to excel independently and within a team whilst being proficient in managing workloads and meeting tight deadlines. Any relevant IT skills and knowledge of MS-365 is desirable.

Please note that as of April 2024, there has been a change in the UK’s sponsorship threshold which now stands at £38,700. Regrettably as the salary for this role falls beneath this threshold, you will not be eligible for sponsorship and your application will automatically be rejected.
