Do you want to design, build and run compute clusters and storage systems that's used to facilitate cutting-edge research? We are looking for talented engineers who relish the challenges of providing research computing infrastructure for a massively wide range of user cases, from massively high-performance file systems to large GPU clusters for AI.

The University of Sheffield delivers life-enhancing research, innovation and education - come and join one of the teams that makes that possible. As a member of the Russell Group, we are one of the top 24 UK universities in the UK and our research is recognised globally. Our distinctive and innovative research spans topics as varied as neuroscience, advanced manufacturing and health. We strive to produce the highest quality research to drive intellectual advances and address global challenges.

In IT Services, we’re dedicated to providing excellent services, systems and infrastructure to meet the needs of our students, researchers and colleagues. Our world is dynamic and so are we. We work closely with everyone who uses technology at the University, to make sure it works for them, so they can focus on improving themselves and the world around us. So if you want to support the next generations of students, leaders and researchers, we want you on our team.

The use of large-scale computing in research is vital and growing across many fields, from the development of AI models and their application, to 'digital twins' and modelling of highly complex systems, computing is intrinsic to most research. The Research and Innovation IT team provides the platforms and services that allow our researchers to stay at the forefront of science, engineering, health and other fields.

As a Research Platforms Engineer within the Research and Innovation IT team, you will work with an amazing team of bright and engaged people to design, build, develop and look after platforms and services that will support researchers, with your focus being primarily on the infrastructure. These platforms include our HPC clusters (docs.hpc.shef.ac.uk) with high-end GPUs and performance filesystems, cloud-based platforms (mostly on AWS) that provide self-service creation of research environments and some discipline-specific tools (eg. clinical data capture tools).

You will be a part of a growing team with a range of skills and experience within the wider Research and Innovation IT team. We value and encourage open discussion and sharing of ideas that can lead to improving the platforms and services we provide for our researchers.

As a member of IT Services, you will work with enthusiastic and motivated people who are dedicated to providing technology based services to all our students, researchers and staff.
