Undergraduate Industrial Trainee
About us
The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases hosts a number of important Research Centres, including the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases, the UCL QS MND Centre as well as the Alzheimer’s Research UK Drug Discovery Institute (ARUK UCL DDI).
The goal of the ARUK UCL DDI is to find new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases. It is fully equipped and staffed for drug discovery, from neuroscience target validation through to screening and pharmacology, and medicinal chemistry.
About the role
We have an exciting prospect for an Industrial Trainee to join the ARUK UCL DDI during the industrial trainee year of an undergraduate degree course in a Biological Science.
You will have the opportunity to use a variety of techniques, including but not limited to neural and glial cell culture model systems; coupled with molecular, cellular, imaging methods, and siRNA gene expression manipulation. You will learn some key molecular and cellular biology techniques necessary for laboratory neuroscience research, in which you will be expected to become competent. You will use these skills to enable you to carry out a research project, the topic of which is relevant to one of the key drug discovery projects of the ARUK UCL DDI. The topic of the project will be defined after the applicant is appointed.
The post is available from September 2024 and funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) for one year.
