UCL established the Institute of Health Informatics (IHI) in August 2014 in the Faculty of Population Health Sciences. The aim of IHI is to conduct high quality data-intensive research to improve health at local, national, and international levels.

About the role

The Institute of Health Informatics is looking to appoint a Research Fellow in Epidemiology/Health Data Science to join our welcoming and vibrant Institute.

This position presents a unique opportunity to join a team of experienced health data scientists, informaticians, statisticians and clinical epidemiologists and contribute significantly to the statistical analysis and subsequent presentation of results from large scale national and rich local health record data resources.

The Research Fellow will work closely with our expert team to help deliver a new project aiming to define and analyse all diseases which are captured in structured health records (“The Disease Atlas”). The postholder will be responsible for planning and conducting data analysis using data from a range of sources to understand disease-treatment indications and produce interactive visualizations of the results generated.

The post is full time (36.5 hours per week) and the post is funded until May 2025, further funding may become available.

About you

You must have a PhD in epidemiology, data science or other related field. You will have strong statistical analysis (using R) and programming skills (e.g. in Spark either via Python or SQL) applied to large scale health record data from hospitals or primary care.

Experience of analysing ICD-10-coded health record data and/or experience of developing data visualisation pipelines is essential.
