Lecturer in Biochemistry ('Omic techniques)

University of Bristol - School of Biochemistry

Location: Bristol
Salary: £48,350 to £54,395 per annum
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 17th April 2024
Closes: 15th May 2024
Job Ref: ACAD107468

The role

The School of Biochemistry seeks to appoint a Lecturer with expertise in the use of experimental and/or computational omic techniques to investigate fundamental or applied questions in biochemistry. Your role will involve developing an internationally-competitive independent research programme and teaching students on the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to which the School contributes. This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious and collegiate School in a Top 10 UK University (QS rankings 2023) that values its strong research and educational reputations.

What will you be doing?

You will develop and lead a programme of international-quality externally funded research in an area of biochemistry that complements our existing research portfolio. You will engage in a range of teaching, assessment and feedback activities across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to which the School contributes: the topics you teach will include subjects related to your research specialism and may include more general areas of biochemistry. You will conduct administration directly related to your own research and teaching activities and, over time, will make wider contributions to administrative and leadership roles in the School and University. You will contribute positively to the general research and teaching culture of the School and will act as mentor to staff and students under your supervision.

You should apply if

You are an emerging leader in your field, with a track record of research productivity and experience in securing external funding. You understand how your research plans and our current research themes will complement and strengthen one another. You hold a PhD in Biochemistry or a closely related discipline and are a clear communicator who has the potential to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students enthusiastically and effectively. You are committed to fostering diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

We aim to attract a diverse range of applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and we particularly welcome female applicants and those from minority ethnic groups, as they are under-represented at this level within the School. We would ideally like the successful applicant to take up the appointment by the start of the 24/25 academic year (September 2024), but a later start date can be arranged by negotiation. This post is available from 1st  August, 2024.

Additional information

For informal enquiries please contact Professor Nigel Savery (Head of School), Bioc-HoS@bristol.ac.uk /+44 117 455 5087.

The closing date for applications is 11:59pm on Wednesday 15th May 2024. The selection process will take place over two days, Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th June 2024 and you will need to be available on both days.
