Information Studies are seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate with expertise in digital scholarship and special collections (rare books and manuscripts) considering the use of information in a variety of formats, including historical and archival sources. Applicants whose research addresses the practices of decolonising and the postcolonial study of book history or the materiality of information (of any world region) are strongly encouraged.
Information Studies is already active in these areas and we are seeking to develop them further (https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/archivespecialcollections/collaborativeresearch/diversity/). The subject has a strong track record of research and teaching in digital humanities and information in a digital age; applicants who can continue to build on this success are particularly welcome.
We have a close working relationship with the University’s Archives and Special Collections Service (ASC) (https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/archivespecialcollections/). Successful applicants will be expected to continue to develop this relationship and utilise the extensive and internationally important range of rare and unique collections held by ASC.
Our research prioritises collaboration, creativity and careers and we provide a supportive, innovative, interdisciplinary, and collegial environment. Our staff serve on advisory panels and boards across the library, archives and museums sector, with their research having policy and real world impact.
The postholder will undertake research of international excellence, contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience through learning and teaching across our undergraduate and taught postgraduate degree programmes, and to knowledge exchange activities relative to the discipline. Administration and service activities are in line with Subject/School and College objectives.
This post is full time (35 hrs per week) and open ended.
Informal discussions about the post are welcome, please contact Prof Sarah Cook, sarah.cook@glasgow.ac.uk, Head of Subject
Closing date: 14th May 2024
