Job summary

The post supports the strategic aims of Imperial College, IETL, and our stakeholders, ensuring the delivery of digital education that is both innovative and critical to the student experience. The successful candidate will have a strong background in developing high quality digital content, supporting technology- enhanced learning & teaching, and maintaining online learning systems/platforms. 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate in cross-functional teams to transform content in line with our evidence informed approach.
  • Apply technical skills to support the co-creation of new learning experiences and solutions across multiple pathways and platforms.
  • Provide training to promote effective technology-enhanced learning & teaching and support our partners.
  • Provide proactive technical support to our complex network of stakeholders via IETL’s tailored service model. This will include 360 departmental services, product maintenance, and programme delivery support.
  • Be well versed in and apply common development standards that ensure consistent and baseline levels of accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Able to translate project scope and requirements to technical specifications, recommending solutions which seamlessly integrate into existing digital education systems.
  • Produce beta versions and protypes during iterative co-development.
  • Participate in regular team meetings, cross-College networks and communities of practice.
  • Undertake training and keep abreast of research in digital education, cascading knowledge to other team members.

Essential requirements

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification, in learning technology, education, technology- enhanced learning, multimedia. 
  • Experience in developing accessible, inclusive, and engaging content and assessment learning on VLEs/LXPs and with responsive technologies. 
  • Experience of working in a cross-functional team to design and deliver digital learning experiences for stakeholders. 
  • Experience in developing against common accessibility standards and frameworks. 
  • Experience of working within a higher education institution or training/education institution. 
  • Knowledge of learning theories and successful digital pedagogies for higher education (HE) contexts. 
  • Deep understanding of a range of tools, platforms, and systems and their associated affordances for supporting digital education. 
  • Knowledge of appropriate structure and styling web technologies (HTML and CSS). 
  • Knowledge of common digital learning technology specifications (e.g. LTI, SCORM). 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to plan and prioritise while working on concurrent projects and workflows. 
  • Ability to present technical information in an accessible, ‘user-friendly’, engaging way. 
  • Proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages and/or a desire to develop further skills in this area (e.g. JavaScript, C# for Unity).
