About IOE
IOE is UCL Faculty of Education and Society.
Founded in 1902, IOE has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just. We have been ranked number one for Education every year since 2014 in the ‘QS World University Rankings by Subject’.
The Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment is a world-leading centre for economics, geography, business, mathematics, science and humanities education. A core strength of the Department is in the study, support and improvement of pedagogy, curriculum and assessment through multidisciplinary programmes. The Department hosts top-rated initial teacher education programmes, incorporating Secondary PGCE, School Direct and Teach First, innovative Master’s programmes and a wide range of continuing professional development courses.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an exciting opportunity for an appropriately experienced Lecturer (Teaching) to become part of the subject team for the PGCE Science and/or MA Education (Science).
The successful candidate is expected to engage in relevant teaching and supervision of students for either/both of these programmes. You will contribute to academic policy and planning at Faculty, Department, and programme levels, and to the development of the curriculum, both within the Department and across relevant programme areas through ongoing curriculum scholarship and / or research. In addition, the successful candidate will pursue academic excellence through a continuing commitment to academic, professional, and personal development.
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have master’s (or higher) degree in education or related field (either complete or nearing completion) and Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent. You will have experience of working effectively with student teachers and/or other school colleagues to support their professional development, alongside a working knowledge of ITE and/or Master’s programmes. You will have good knowledge of the science curriculum and a wide range of learning and teaching approaches suited to the needs of postgraduate students. In addition, you will have a successful teaching experience in schools and the potential to teach successfully at a higher education level (if not already experienced in this sector of education).
Your application form should address all the person specification points and should clearly demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the criteria.
It is important that the criteria are clearly numbered and that you provide a response to each one.
OUR COMMITMENT TO EDI

These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; LGBTQI+ people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women.
Our faculty holds an Athena SWAN Bronze award, in recognition of our commitment to advancing gender equality.
