UEA has some of the most innovative and highly regarded centres for research in the UK. Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Coordinator (Teaching).

Working within a busy undergraduate laboratory in the Faculty of Science, the focus of the post will centre on provision for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology. You will be part of a team of technicians responsible for all aspects of technical support for the laboratory to necessitate the smooth running of undergraduate sessions and high level of service.

You will be responsible for a team of technicians working in the busy chemistry, pharmacy and pharmacology teaching laboratory in the Faculty of Science. The team are responsible for all preparation and clearing of chemicals and materials used in the undergraduate practical teaching sessions and will help in all activities to necessitate the smooth running of undergraduate sessions. You will maintain and replenish stocks, give advice and assistance to academic staff and students and provide general help across the Faculty of Science when required.

Key duties of the role include:

  • Responsible for the operation of teaching laboratories and associated facilities. Arranging the availability of laboratories, equipment and essential services to coincide with the needs of teaching practicals, student projects, outreach and admission activities.
  • Line management responsibility for a team of staff to ensure a high standard of service provision within the area of responsibility.
  • Managing the procurement and provision of goods and services from internal and external suppliers.
  • Ensuring staff and students comply with Health and Safety guidelines, policy and regulations. Providing current H&S information and updates to staff and students within area of responsibility. Developing and modifying ‘safe systems of work’, guidelines and policy documents.
  • Ensuring equipment is serviced/cleaned and kept in good working order.
  • Providing advice and direction in the use, technique and application of instruments and equipment. Training staff and students in specialist techniques and the operation of complex equipment.

You will have proven experience of working in a laboratory environment and must possess a thorough understanding of laboratory safety issues and good laboratory practice. You must have a minimum of level 3 qualification (or equivalent) to include a science subject.

This full-time post is available from 1 August 2024 on an indefinite basis and will be campus based.
