St Patrick's Pontifical University at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, invites applications for the permanent post of Professor of Systematic Theology
St Patrick’s Pontifical University is nationally and internationally recognised centre of theological and philosophical learning, scholarship, and research. Founded as the Catholic National Seminary in 1795, it was recognised as a Pontifical University with Faculties of Theology, Canon Law and Philosophy in 1896. The Faculty of Theology of St Patrick’s Pontifical University offers a variety of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. St Patrick's Pontifical University is located on one of the most historical campuses in Ireland, alongside one of Ireland's youngest third level institutions, Maynooth University.
Since the Second Vatican Council, holders of the Professorship/Chair of Systematic Theology have made significant contributions to the renewal of Systematic Theology within the Catholic Tradition, inspiring oldd attracting some of Ireland’s finest young theologians. Since 2011, all awards accredited by the Pontifical University have been submitted to the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ), the statutory body that recognises academic awards in Ireland. The mandate of The Pontifical University is expressed in its constitutive document Veritatis Gaudium (2017), and quality assured by AVEPRO (Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties).

Role
The Professor of Systematic Theology is a key Senior Academic and educational leader, operating in conjunction with senior leadership, in supporting the mission and vision of St Patrick's Pontifical University. The Professor is responsible for research and teaching in the entire spectrum of the subject area of Systematic theology and will be expected to take a lead in advancing Systematic Theology in the Pontifical University in line with our overarching strategic objectives, by way of excellent teaching and research, postgraduate supervision, quality and reputation, programme development and realignment, and student engagement.
The Professor of Systematic Theology is a person of proven excellence whose scholarly qualifications in addition to university degrees in Catholic theology include superior, pertinent publications in the subject area and internationally recognised outstanding achievements and experience in academic research and teaching.

This is a Permanent position. The salary level will be based on market rates combined with the applicants’ level of experience. Candidates must be available to take up the role by 19th August 2024 to be conversant of the expectations for the new Academic year 2024/2025.
