A Research Associate position is available on the EPSRC funded mmWave 6G Non-Terrestrial Network Satellite Communication project. Rapid global growth in satellite communications enabled Non Terrestrial Networks (NTN) to integrate with 5G/6G and IoT/M2M, providing 3D full earth coverage, reliable mobile broadband, global IoT services, and accurate GPS. NGSOs utilising Very Low Earth Orbit (V-LEO) and LEO satellite constellations have revolutionised RF communication by supporting 5G/6G applications and broadband internet, currently operated by SpaceX, OneWeb, TeleSat, and Amazon. When compared with its counterpart existing Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite constellations, NGSO offers cutting edge features such as: low weight, small propagation loss, low transmission delay, high speed internet access, large area coverage, cost effective manufacturing and launching.

The project will aim to develop a 5G/6G RF receiver with a focus on channel and spectrum efficiency optimisation for satellite systems. This will involve using software defined radio and applying signal processing techniques to achieve the project objectives. The project will offer the opportunity to work using the national mmWave facility at the communications group, The University of Sheffield and offer industry relevant experience due the nature of project collaboration with industry.
