Lead Delivery Manager

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs.

Digital Services are responsible for the digital information, systems and technologies used by staff and students across The Open University. Covering all aspects of digital technology at the OU, from sourcing and maintaining systems, through to providing frontline IT support for staff and students.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Lead Delivery Manager to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which will be based within Digital Services. 

The initial focus of this role will be to support the Student Services Portfolio whose ambition it is to ensure services and products are highly customer-centric and designed with the user (whether student or colleague) in mind ensuring best possible outcomes. These roles all require experience of working with agile methodology, of leading, coaching and bringing out the best in your people.

We are looking for those who thrive whilst collaborating with a fully multi-disciplinary team and have significant experience of working on the full lifecycle of products, from ideation to development, from delivery to operation and ongoing improvement with a view to making the user experience a positive one. We need role holders to have a breadth of tools and methods appropriate to leading teams to deliver at pace and mentoring and developing others.  

Skills and experience

This role will suit you if you:

  • Have proven knowledge and experience of Delivery Management of the full service and digital product life cycle, including applying the most appropriate Agile and other techniques.
  • Possess the ability to create or tailor new ways of working, and constantly innovate.
  • A deep understanding of what it takes to successfully deliver services and digital products, including the ability to foresee and proactively address delivery risks.
  • Are experienced in balancing multiple priorities for complex and high visibility services and products.
  • Have experience of building high performing, highly skilled multidisciplinary team delivering a specific product, service or transformation.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of Product Management, Service design and development practices – although this may not be your specialty.
