Exploiting the innate and adaptive immune interface for effective cancer therapy (Cancer Research UK)

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and capable postdoctoral researcher to join a programme of research led by Professor Sean Lim at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will join the Southampton Antibody and Vaccine Group in the Faculty of Medicine, comprising basic scientists and clinicians, providing a rich environment for exciting professional and personal development.

Supported by Cancer Research UK, this translational research project aims to understand how T-cell agonistic antibodies mediate their anti-tumour function, and how they can be combined to promote effective cancer immunotherapy. The overall aim is to gain sufficient understanding to select the best antibody candidates for translation into clinical testing.

You will need to be able to work independently as well as collaboratively, and must have

  • a PhD or be close to completion of a PhD in immunology or a related life science subject,
  • a strong interest and knowledge of innate and adaptive immunity, and
  • research experience in standard cell biology and immunology techniques (cell culture, flow cytometry, immunological functional assays).
  • Experience in single cell transcriptomics and systems biology approaches are also desirable.

Fixed term until end of March 2025, with potential to extend to a 2-year contract thereafter.

About us:

The lab is embedded within the Antibody and Vaccine Group, itself formed by 6 group leaders, who work closely to form a highly collaborative, inclusive and supportive working environment. The Group has worked on monoclonal antibodies for over 25 years, providing ideas, new reagents, mechanistic understanding and translating these findings into treatments for patients.

All informal queries are welcomed and should be directed to Prof Sean Lim (s.h.lim@soton.ac.uk)
