About the role

In order to maintain our reputation for teaching excellence and to further enhance the academic and employability skills of our students, the Department of Life Sciences is keen to hire a Lecturer to assist in the delivery of our undergraduate Pharmacology and Pharmacy programmes.  

This will involve the delivery and assessment of teaching to small groups, lecturing, and practical laboratory teaching as required. 

Additional student support, administrative and assessment duties will be required. 

This post will support learning and teaching predominantly in the area of cardiovascular pharmacology. 

Additional experience in teaching CNS pharmacology would be desirable.   

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months.

This job purpose can be summarised as follows:

  • To plan and deliver taught programmes of education and support student learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level (as appropriate). This will include preparation of teaching material, lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes (pharmacology practical skills), assessment and marking of coursework.
  • To promote professional values in the teaching and training of pharmacy students
  • To play a role in developing the teaching culture and student experience of the University.
  • To provide teaching-related management and administrative duties.
  • Whilst it is expected that teaching will be informed by research/professional expertise, there is no research component to this role.

About the department

The Department of Life Sciences aims to deliver excellence in research and teaching across the spectrum of the Life Sciences. 

The University of Bath was awarded triple Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2023 for the overall assessment and the two underpinning assessments of student outcomes and student experience. 

The Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath was recently formed through the merger of the departments of Biology & Biochemistry and Pharmacy & Pharmacology. 

It has over 90 academic staff across a broad range of disciplines including, biochemistry, cell & developmental biology, evolution, genetics, immunology microbiology, pharmacology, pharmaceutical pharmacy and structural biology. 

The vast majority of research within the merged departments was rated as 4* or 3* in the last (REF2021) assessment.
