Background
Birmingham Law School (BLS)
Birmingham Law School (BLS) is one of five Schools in the College of Arts and Law with around 2,000 students and over 120 staff. The Deputy Head of Operations is a critical role in the School, deputising for the School’s Head of Operations, and undertaking strategic and operational projects that span the breadth of the School’s non learning and teaching-related professional services team and activities. The post will have full management and leadership responsibility for a team dealing with all general administration in the School. The Deputy Head of Operations is responsible for ensuring that the teams provide efficient and continuously enhanced services to a broad range of managerial and academic stakeholders. The post holder will lead operations in an effective, efficient, responsive and professional manner supporting the Dean of School and School management team to deliver excellence in research and teaching.
Role Summary
The College of Arts and Law seeks to recruit two Deputy Heads of Operations, one to work in the Birmingham Law School (permanent appointment) and one to work in the School of English, Drama and Creative Studies (fixed-term, one year in the first instance). Each post holder will be comfortable and familiar with exercising considerable leadership and solution-focused management responsibility in their current role and demonstrate a commitment to exercising transformational leadership within each of the Deputy Head of Operations roles. The post holders will undertake strategic and operational projects that span the breadth of their school’s activities and the College too. Each School Deputy Head of Operations will be responsible for ensuring that teams they manage provide efficient and high-quality services within a broader context of continuous improvement for all stakeholders.
