Head of the ICMP School of Music Production

The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance

Located in London at the heart of the global music industry, ICMP has been developing and delivering contemporary music education for over 30 years – longer than any other music school in the UK.

The school offers a specialist range of industry-aligned undergraduate and postgraduate courses focused on preparing musicians, producers, performers, creative artists and entrepreneurs for a successful and rewarding career in the music and wider industries. 

With two stunning purpose-designed campus buildings in North London, the institution has recently been awarded its own Degree Awarding Powers and is on track to achieve University Title in the next two years. Requirements

The Head of School’s primary role is to provide strategic and operational leadership and management of ICMP’s School of Music Production. This includes:

  • ensuring the effective design and delivery of high-quality undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses;
  • the ongoing development of the school’s academic management team and teaching faculty;
  • the appropriate expansion of the academic portfolio aligned with ICMP’s growth plans;
  • establishing and maintaining relevant external partnerships;
  • ensuring the School is engaged in meaningful research, scholarship and professional practice. 

We are seeking a motivated and creative leader for this role. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of specialist area in an industry context, with excellent contacts and networks across relevant sectors;
  • Extensive experience of strategic leadership and/or management within an HE environment;
  • Extensive experience of building and developing teams, portfolio, curriculum and quality assurance within an HE environment;
  • Experience of product/portfolio development and leading academic programmes through validation/approval;
  • Experience of instigating departmental or institutional change and making improvements to academic provision;
  • Experience of leading/co-ordinating research/scholarly projects;
  • Experience of leading CPD initiatives that have contributed to departmental or institutional change;
  • Experience of leadership and/or management within the small & specialist, independent or alternative HE sector 

As a member of the Senior Academic Team, the Head of School will also support the Dean in the overall direction, strategic development, operational management and ongoing improvement of ICMP’s academic function.
