The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research. Our academic members of staff include occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners and sociologists. The School is run over two campuses: Southend and Colchester. Academic staff are supported by a team of administrative staff based at both Colchester and Southend campuses. The School is undergoing exciting changes and expansion with the introduction of a host of new courses, including Speech and Language Therapy Apprenticeships and the Masters in Global Public Health.
The School is at the forefront of preparing people to solve real-life issues in health and society, offering courses and research that both commissioners and employers believe in. People are at the heart of all we do. We work in partnership with people from all occupations, who offer us their expertise and experience, making us a team of people who truly understand what is needed from health and social care professionals – now and in the future.
In 2017, we were awarded a silver Athena SWAN award, which recognises the commitment the School has towards equality and development of an inclusive culture promoting dignity and respect. We are currently working on an application for a gold Athena SWAN award and are at the forefront of developing anti-racism training for health and social care students and practitioners. These are, of course, qualities that are also endorsed by the values of the NHS constitution with which all staff and students of the School engage.
