The Department of Politics is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Politics (part-time) to enhance our existing strengths in political communication and political leadership. The successful candidate will have demonstrable ability to engage students with research-led, innovative teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver two modules at L6/L7 in the first semester of academic year 2024/25:

  • POL3082: Political Communication
  • POL3088: Political Leadership.

The role

This role can be ideal, but not restricted to, early career researchers who wish to develop their career in a vibrant department with a strong student-led learning community. The role is part-time (maternity cover) fixed-term but it allows the successful candidate to test innovative teaching methods and cutting-edge research-led content where applicable. The two modules are delivered at final year and double-coded for some of our postgraduate students. The successful candidate will:

  1. Support the research environment of the Department, complementing and expanding existing research strengths in political communications and political leadership 
  2. Take the opportunity to produce high quality publications that contribute to the research profile of the Department 
  3. Be supported in their career development plans with mentoring on individual and collaborative research grant bids and proposals 
  4. Engage with the research and outreach activities of the Centre for Britain and Europe
  5. Contribute to the delivery of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the provision of lectures, seminars, and module management 
  6. Contribute to administrative and programme management duties as required by the Head of Department

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague who will help us maintain our excellent teaching delivery, become part of our vibrant research and teaching community and collaborate with colleagues in their teaching and research activities. In turn, the Department will support the successful candidate, offering opportunities to develop their research portfolio, pursue of external funding and other collaborative research activities and be mentored by a senior colleague. 

Person specification:

  • PhD, completed (or verifiably close to completion) in Politics, Political Communication or related discipline (expected)
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate students (expected)
  • Specialism in political communication, political leadership or related areas (expected)
  • Some experience of University administration (expected)
  • Teaching qualification or evidence of working towards such qualification (expected)
