The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for managing strategic planning and operational aspects of the NMIS and leading the executive team in the successful growth of NMIS and its industrial impact.

At the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), we aim to deliver ground-breaking manufacturing innovation to deliver sustainability, productivity and growth across manufacturing and ensure they have the skills to deliver that future. The role of Chief Operating Officer is a key role in the executive team that will ensure we deliver that vision.

NMIS will help employees and manufacturing leaders thrive in a changing manufacturing environment. NMIS’ focus on digital manufacturing, automation and skills will bring benefits across multiple sectors. Industrial manufacturing businesses in aerospace, engineering, automotive, renewables and shipbuilding will particularly benefit, but NMIS will also support businesses in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, life sciences and food and drink. NMIS is a strong part of the wider UK HVMC network and a critical part of the forward plans for manufacturing in Scotland.

NMIS headquarters is based in the heart of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland and is being delivered by the University of Strathclyde. The University of Strathclyde in Glasgow possesses a large internationally rated Engineering Faculty with a proud history of successful joint ventures with industrial and enterprise partners.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of NMIS, the Chief Operating Officer will provide the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that NMIS has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, people and systems in place to effectively grow the organisation and to ensure operating efficiency. The COO will be responsible for developing, monitoring and evaluating overall Centre strategy with the CEO and other stakeholders with emphasis on increasing the profile of the Centre and increasing Impact to Industry. Degree qualified with extensive relevant leadership experience, you will have the ability to successfully interface with a wide range of internal and external partners and experience of engaging at the industry-academia interface.
