Faculty / Directorate

The Global Pathways Centre (GPC) in the Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities is home to the International Year Zero (IYZ) Foundation Programme. The IYZ pathway programme offers an innovative specialist route to prepare and enable students to successfully progress to their chosen degree programmes. The GPC supports students and faculty with a multidisciplinary enhanced curriculum that equips students with the skills and specialist knowledge to prepare and develop their key generic and transferable skills to strengthen students’ employability portfolio.

The IYZ programme offers an exciting curriculum which prepares students for HE-level learning and enables progression to the first year of their chosen degrees. The programme is underpinned by English for Academic Purposes (EAP) teaching to support the acquisition of language skills and discipline-specific knowledge. The EAP curriculum is uniquely informed by the UN Sustainability Goals (SDGs). With a common structure and approach, these preparatory programmes offer innovative teaching and learning, with routes into clusters of degrees across a range of subjects.

Role

We are seeking to appoint an experienced EAP lecturer to support and lead the development and delivery of EAP teaching in the IYZ programme and to provide campus-wide English language support for UG and PG students. You will be joining an enthusiastic team in establishing EAP and the IYZ programme as a regional centre for English Language excellence. You will help to build professional networks and play an active role in creating a campus community for students.

Ideal Candidate

You will be educated to Master’s degree level (or higher) and have experience of teaching in a U.K higher education institution. You will also have experience of preparing lessons in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), covering all the language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, through a firmly academic context. You will have an ELT qualification (DELTA certificate or equivalent / equivalent experience) and a Masters in an English-related discipline (e.g. ELT, Applied Linguistics). You must be passionate about teaching the next generation of DMU graduates.
