The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
We are seeking one research assistant to develop new methodologies to address this challenge, using a range of fidelities of aerodynamic simulation tools. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong interests in fluid dynamics or transonic flows.
The post holder will contribute to the development of new methods for rapid transonic drag prediction at the early stages of aircraft design, as part of a large collaborative project with industry and other academic partners. Transonic aerodynamics is highly nonlinear, making the prediction of drag extremely challenging.
About you
Knowledge of CFD, including mesh generation or familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or MatLab is highly beneficial. Interest in design approaches, such as machine learning, surrogate modelling, optimisation etc. would also be an advantage. Candidates should have strong enthusiasm for fluid dynamics and computational methods.
The successful candidate should be enrolled in an accredited engineering programme and have completed at least 10 credits of CFD/Fluid Dynamics modules.
