The UCLan School of Dentistry has an exciting opportunity for you to join the team behind the new BDS international route program (BDSi). The program is aimed at overseas dentists who will undertake the last two years of the BDS program to gain UK GDC registration (subject to approval). Working closely with the Program lead and clinical placement leads and in a collaborative School of Dentistry setting, the post holder will lead on the development, oversight, quality management, assurance and evaluation of the clinical skills curriculum for the BDS international route (BDSi) to ensure compliance with all required UCLan and NHS/Enhanced Training Practice(ETP) policies and procedures. The post holder will take lead responsibility for the planning and delivery of clinical skills teaching and assessment on the Preston Campus and to coordinate delivery in external sites (ETPs) and will collaborate with the BDSi team and ETP providers to produce evaluative information on the clinical skills element of the curriculum and student and school performance.
Working with the BDSi team, the post holder will facilitate validation, standardization and calibration of clinical supervisors, source and/or provide the necessary training to ensure a uniform delivery of education in the ETP placements across the BDSi program. The post holder will also be responsible for student assessment processes within the clinical skills curriculum (OSCE based assessments) and to work closely with the Faculty assessment lead to analyse data from the assessment of students; to prepare and present student assessment data for GDC validation and student monitoring.
Essential to the role is full current registration with the General Dental Council and comprehensive long-term experience of primary care dentistry in a general dental practice, university, community or hospital environment. The post holder will have experience of teaching/supervising either as a Vocational Trainer or postgraduate tutor or alternatively having held a recognised teaching role/position within a dental education setting and hold a formal teaching qualification or willingness to undertake within 2 years of appointment. The post holder will have experience of program course management and administration and the ability to travel independently between sites of clinical placements.
