ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Data Information and Insight Officer plays a critical role in strategic data analysis, governance, and intelligence within the University. Collaborating extensively across faculties, the role facilitates the development of University intelligence tailored to business needs.

Responsibilities encompass addressing a diverse array of matters, often confidential, sensitive, or urgent, requiring sound judgment to navigate the most appropriate course of action effectively.

You will serve as advocates for data, data analysis, and data governance, fostering innovation, learning, and best practices institution-wide. You'll actively promote a data-driven culture, sharing knowledge proactively and acting as leaders within the community.

Regarding analysis and insight, you excel in collecting, interpreting, and cleaning data to derive meaningful insights. Your ability to apply appropriate analytical techniques enables you to provide information and evidence supporting university change initiatives and strategic developments. You'll manage sourcing, assimilation, and interpretation of data related to the Higher Education market and the university’s competitors.

Your technical understanding and capability allow you to effectively support projects necessitating transformative change in current data operations.

Additionally, you'll play pivotal roles in verification and validation, ensuring the improvement, accuracy, and completeness of core datasets. You will analyze key statutory data returns, assessing their implications for various benchmarks and student recruitment strategies, and take responsibility for the accuracy and quality of data and analysis.

Your collaborative nature extends externally, collaborating with the wider community of Higher Education Data Analysts to inform future policy and approaches. Internally, you'll work closely with colleagues to promote a data-driven culture and implement best practices in data usage and visualization.

You'll actively engage in continuous improvement efforts, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of departmental services, procedures, and processes, and furthering Swansea University's approach to Data, Information, and Insight.

WELSH LANGUAGE SKILLS

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
